An update from the Club’s Management Committee on the two banned ex-members

Uncategorized

Although we continue to face problems caused by two banned ex-members, the Management Committee has made significant headway during the past year in addressing many of the issues caused by them. This has allowed the Management Committee to focus more on their key role of running and developing our Golf Club. Telling the Club’s evidenced based side of the story, as well as forging good links with the County, England Golf and our local MP, have been instrumental in putting the Club in a stronger position. The tactic of not responding to their harassment and intimidation has worked very well and we would like to thank everyone who has ignored their provocation. Please continue to support the Club with this strategy. However and going forward, we also need to ensure that we do not engage with, or supply material to the various social media sites, which are either pro these two banned ex-members, or against them. England Golf have recently stated that “on the basis of all of the evidence that England Golf is currently aware, England Golf is unable to establish a prima facie case of discrimination or victimisation (originating after the execution of the settlement agreement between the banned ex-member and Church Stretton Golf Club, dated 17th March 2017) against Church Stretton Golf Club”. As per England Golf’s guidance to us regarding future complaints that are deemed to be historically linked to previous complaints and claims made by the banned ex-member (prior to 2025) of victimisation, discrimination and Honorary Life Membership, the Club will not be responding further to him on these complaints and he has been advised to contact England Golf. England Golf has also stated that “they have not been provided with evidence upon which it has been able to corroborate the banned ex-member’s claim of Honorary Life Membership at Church Stretton Golf Club”. England Golf have notified the banned ex-member that the Club “has taken the decision to permanently exclude him, in any capacity, from Church Stretton Golf Club”. The County has confirmed that the banned ex-member is currently prohibited from participating in any of their competitions or events, but that it will lift this prohibition, allowing him to participate in its competitions and events, if: 1.         He confirms in writing to England Golf that he respects the findings of England Golf’s investigation into his complaints. 2.         He confirms in writing to England Golf that he will comply with the terms of his exclusion from Church Stretton Golf Club and complies with the terms of that exclusion. Despite the claims of the two banned ex-members, who maintain a vexatious social media campaign against the Club, we are committed to continuing to foster a positive and inclusive golfing environment for all our members. With your continued support, we can focus on improving Church Stretton Golf Club for the benefit of both current and future members. During the past year, membership of our Club has increased by nearly 50% and it is easy to see why, as our course is playable most of the year-round and offers great value at an affordable price. The growth of our membership has allowed us to announce an exciting programme of investment in the Course and the Clubhouse. It is an exciting time to be a member of Church Stretton Golf Club. Thank you for your understanding, cooperation and support and we look forward to a great year ahead, both on and off the course. Best wishes On behalf of the Management Committee of Church Stretton Golf Club.
