Who Was James Braid?
James Braid (1870–1950) was one of golf’s most influential figures, both as a champion player and a pioneering course architect. A Scottish professional golfer, he was part of the legendary “Great Triumvirate” alongside Harry Vardon and John Henry Taylor, dominating the sport in the early 20th century. Braid won The Open Championship five times (1901, 1905, 1906, 1908, 1910) and later became one of the most sought-after golf course designers in history. His innovative approach, including the introduction of doglegs, has left a lasting mark on golf course architecture.
